about Jo
Jo McKendry grew up in Queensland, Australia. She danced with Russel Dumas and the Dance Exchange in Sydney for five years before moving to New York in 1991. In the 1990s she performed in the works of Neil Greenberg, John Jasperse, Lucy Guerin and Sara Rudner, among other artists.
Recently she received a City Artists Corp Grant to present her dance work in six outdoor locations in Manhattan (2021). Her earlier work was presented at DraftWork, St. Mark’s Church-in-the-Bowery (2019), and at First Person Plural Salon, lower east side (2018). She presents her work through Jo&Co, acknowledging the essential contribution of all participating artists to the creative process.
Her writing has appeared in Fiction, Antioch Review, Southwest Review, Seizure and other publications. McKendry began painting in 2021, in response to a felt need to do so. She continues to study at the Art Students League of New York.
